You should sleep one night in Lima, rest well in your hotel, and the next day travel to Cusco. Before and upon arrival in Cusco, drink medicine for altitude sickness (soroche). In your hotel in Cusco also drink an infusion of coca leaves (the coca has alkaloids), which will help you to oxygenate and acclimatize better. Avoid smoking cigarettes, or drinking alcoholic beverages and coffee that obstruct the best oxygenation. It is a good idea to first visit Cusco, Sacred Valley, Machupicchu, and then Chinchero. This way you will not feel altitude sickness symptoms.

There are four airlines that operate round-trip flights between Lima and Cusco: LATAM Airlines, AVIANCA Airlines, Star Peru, and Peruvian Airlines. They all offer similar schedules and in-flight service, but we generally recommend LATAM or AVIANCA Airlines, as they tend to be more accommodating when unexpected cancellations or delays occur.
