Detailed Itinerary

We will pick you up from your hotel in Cusco at 4 a.m., and you will travel on our private bus with your tour guide and drive approximately four hours until you reach the trailhead, called Capuliyoc. There you will meet the horses and muleteers. Your trekking guide will introduce you to the team.

From the Capuliyoc lookout point, have the wonderful view of the Apurimac canyon and the amazing snow-capped mountains. After a nice group photo, start the incredible hike to Choquequiraw. It will be a four-hour downhill hike with some stops until you reach the place of your first lunch. The trail can be dusty and slippery, but with good trekking shoes and trekking poles, you won’t have any problems. It will have spectacular landscapes and an abundance of flora and fauna. After lunch, you will walk for two more hours until you reach your first camp.

After your first nutritious breakfast, begin the 3-hour uphill hike to the next camp at Marampata. As you ascend, you will enjoy the best panoramic views. This ascent is one of the most challenging parts of the Choquequirao Tour.

For this time, have lunch at 11:00 am. Then, visit the archaeological site of Choquequirao for the rest of the day. From the Marampata camp, it will be an easy hike to the last city of the Inca empire and this will be the most impressive section of your entire hike because you will have incredible views from the summit to the Apurimac canyon. You will also have a breathtaking view of the agricultural terraces perched on the cliff.

Arriving at the beautiful and last city of the Inca Empire, explore the main square, the dormitories, the workshops, go to the Qolqas (storehouses), descend to the llama or alpaca sector and finally climb up to the Usno (ceremonial sector) and take the classic Choquequirao photos. If you still have energy and time, descend to the Phaqchayoq cultivation terraces.

After recording all the nooks and crannies with your camera lens, set off back to the Marampata camp and enjoy your energetic dinner.

Today, the hike will not be very demanding. Most of it will be downhill.

Have breakfast at 6am without any hurry. Then start descending at a slow pace towards the Apurimac River and then start ascending on the opposite side until you reach the Chiquiska camp. Here, enjoy your lunch and the rest of the day will be free or you can participate in the process of making a local drink (cambray) made from sugar cane.

At 6pm enjoy your coffee and the last dinner.

After your last breakfast. Begin the four-hour uphill hike until you reach Capuliyoc which is the end of the trek and here enjoy your last lunch with your guide and muleteers.

Before starting your 4-hour trip to Cusco, say goodbye to the expedition team: muleteers and cook. Then, together with your guide, take your private transportation to the city of Cusco. On the way, make a brief stop in the Sayhuite community to visit the beautiful Inca sculpture or model made in a giant rock in high and low relief.

Arrival at your hotel in Cusco at approximately 6 p.m.
